Character Information
Basics NAME: Chiaki Nanami
CANON: Super Dangan Ronpa 2
NICKNAMES: n/a
AGE: ~17
GENDER: Female
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
OCCUPATION: High school student
History Here's a link to her wiki page, until I have the time to write out a more detailed summary myself.
Personality First and foremost, Nanami Chiaki is the Super High School Level Gamer, and that shapes how she interacts with the world. She often talks in game metaphors and references plot devices from various obscure games, oftentimes confusing the rest of her castmates. She lives, breathes, and sleeps video games. It gets to the point where she's even playing in her dreams, and oftentimes she is so caught up in beating a level that she can forget to eat, sleep, or even breathe. She is, however, able to multitask and play while talking to others - while she does pause for combo chains, Hinata is impressed by her ability to respond to him (however slowly) while not missing a beat in the game she is playing.

More importantly, however, Nanami is arguably the sweetest member of the whole Dangan Ronpa/Super Dangan Ronpa 2 cast. She cares about her classmates, honestly considering them to be her friends, and at the beginning she is one of the characters who is saddened to believe that a murderer could be among their ranks. Towards the end of the game, she is also fully willing to give her life to protect her classmates, when she realizes that she has been tricked into becoming a murderer. Even knowing that they are the remnants of the horrible Super High School Level Despair group, she cannot condemn them to death – and, instead, is willing to meet her own end. Even when she’s revealed to be a computer program, the rest of her classmates reject the idea of her not being “real”, because she had been such a dear friend to them.

As the Future Foundation's traitor, she's also very much in opposition to Monobear's plans for despair. She directly states that murder - or participating in the mutual killing game - is the one thing she can never forgive. Killing someone goes against everything she stands for. Along with the rest of the Future Foundation, she fights in the name of hope, which opposes despair. She even reappears after being “killed” to provide hope for Hinata when the future seems darkest - she reassures him that, regardless of whether he has "Super High School Level" talent or not, she thinks he is a person to be proud of, and she gives him the courage to face the future and take responsibility for his previous actions.

However, her true nature as an AI is apparent when you look at her social skills and limited knowledge of the “outside world”. During her introduction, she notes that she has a hard time making rapid conversation with someone until she gets to know them really well, as it takes her a while to think of what to say. She also has limited experience with the real world, leading to conversations where Hinata has to introduce her to concepts such as Hina Matsuri and how to milk a cow. She notes that she is nervous about interacting with and touching living things (especially people), since it can lead to too many things. There are too many dialogue tree options, too many choices on how to act all with their own consequences; she thinks it's easier to simply watch from the sidelines.

However, another issue that arises when Nanami converses with others is her ability to come across as absent-minded due to her frequent sleeping habit. Nanami can sleep anywhere, anytime. She's even impressed Hinata with her ability to sleep while standing up, and she has a bad habit of nodding off in the middle of conversations as well. She claims that this is due to her often being so consumed with playing her games that she forgets to sleep, but it leads to many of her classmates scolding her for "not paying attention" during conversations.

In reality, the truth is that she is often ahead of the pack when it comes to unraveling the murder mysteries present on the island. She's the one to insist that Togami's murderer attacked him from under the floorboards even when it seemed impossible, plus she's one of the few people to have not been fooled by Chapter 2's murderer's trick. Nanami is one of the three main "trial point getters" of the sequel, along with Hinata and Komaeda, and she contributes significantly to all of the trial discussions up until her death.

One last interesting thing to note about Nanami is that she has a very sassy side to her. She'll pout and huff when Hinata (or one of the others) makes her mad, and she's not afraid to tell Komaeda or even Monobear to be quiet. So while she's generally a very kind and gentle person, if you make her angry, she won't hesitate to talk back at you.

Preferences
☆ Shipping: m/f, generally other teenagers around her age unless there's some sort of AU situation involved. Particularly interested in shipping her with a Hinata.

☆ Characters I'd like to play against: I'd love to do anything with her various classmates or with her interacting with other Dangans from other classes. Also open to cross-canon, however.

☆ Situations I'd be interested in playing: I'm down for post-canon or AUs, especially dealing with her trying to process the difference between video games & the real world. In general, I'm always a fan of hurt/comfort memes, soulmates & other AUs, texting memes (including tfln), as well as gen memes.

☆ Smut: currently not comfortable playing smut with her, sorry.

☆ Backtagging: Yes, more than welcome! I have a pretty busy schedule myself, so I can tend to take a while - so I'd never penalize anyone else for doing the same.

☆ Threadhopping: I'd generally prefer to avoid this, but depending on the case, could be allowable? Please let me know first.

☆ Fourthwalling: Please don't, unless for some reason that was the point of the thread and/or it was discussed beforehand.

☆ Contact: If you need to reach the player for any reason, please PM this journal or [personal profile] dewdrops.
